Hi All,
Exciting news! The new rain catchment system is up. Hannah, Roy, Judy, Stephen, & friends spent the last weekend in March cutting down trees, leveling the stage, putting the new gutters on the shed and installing the stage wall. This past weekend Hannah, Stephen, and some local friends rebuilt the tables to hold the rain barrels (HUGE thank you to Roy for lending us his tools!). He is finishing up caulking the barrels so everything is sealed. The structure is separate from the stage, so as they settle they will not pull it down. The legs are buried quite deep so it isn't going anywhere. We also added a few places to hang watering cans. The structure has not been painted/stained - we just didn't have time. If anyone wants to take this on, I am all for it! If not, should be okay - important thing is we have water! We bought 3 new watering cans at Tractor Supply Co. - they are in the green shed and are labeled so hopefully they stay on the premises! Some pics!

Oct 1st from 9-noon we will be participating in the Town clean up day as a needy site. We need help replacing 8 garden beds, painting the stage and picnic tables, cleaning up debris on the trail and general clean up in the garden area and water barrel areas.
This is your chance to give back to the garden club and town and to meet people of like minds who value the garden not just for gardening opportunities but also as a home for wildlife such reptiles, mammals, and birds of all kinds. Please email or call 988-3222 if you are available for the full three hours or just a part. We really need the help! $100: Tessa Boyle $50: Ella Botelho $25: Glenn DeLuca This year's Duck Race down the Salmon Falls river for the Garden Club's annual fundraiser was a great success once again! Not only did we break records for the number of duck tickets purchased, but the crowd and on-site ticket sales also topped previous years! Becky Wright's craft table for the kids helped keep a lot of little ones busy as they waited for the race to begin. The weather was beautiful and sunny and the wind directly before the finish line bunched up the winning contenders, prolonging the race and making Judith Nelson's race-calling skills extra exciting. Finally, ducks 1, 2, and 3 crossed the finish line and were scooped up by our duck wranglers to be announced to the crowd. Back behind the lower mill is getting to be a real hot-spot for Open Studios visitors with the Library's chocolate tasting, North Country Hard Cider, Embers Bakery pizza cart, and the Duck Race making an excellent stop for visitors and their families to take a break on the grass in the early afternoon. Everything was a great success! And also, guess what? As of last week, for the first time, we are completely sold out of all 36 gardening beds (plus our 2 community herb beds) for the first time ever! What a great week for the Club and the town! Thank you to all our supporters!

Join us for Community Garden Cleanup Day! We'll be at the garden Oct. 3, #464 Foundry St. from 9-11am.Thanks to everyone who participated, RGLSC's 2015 annual fundraiser Duck Race was a great success! The weather was beautiful, and there was a huge crowd enjoying cider, pizza, and chocolate from various vendors. And we provided the Peeps! The kids had lots of fun with crafts and just sitting out for a nice family afternoon by the river. First place was duck #4. David Martingale very generously donated the $100 cash prize back to the Community Garden! Second place was duck #72 for a $50 cash prize to Jameson Small. And third place was duck #323 for $25 to the Pinard Family. Congratulations everyone, and we look forward to seeing you again next spring! The RGLSC is a 501(c)3 non-profit. This is the only fundraiser the Rollinsford Community Garden and Local Sustainability Club (RGLSC) does, so it is very important to us. The proceeds allow us to maintain our organic Community Garden on Foundry Street which has 38 raised beds for rent where gardeners can grow their veggies & flowers. There is also a nice walking trail which is open to the public which connects the garden to the Lower Mills. We mow the area weekly and maintain the beds, the trail, and the rainwater system for our gardeners and visitors. The club also maintains the Cross Street Garden Walkway, which is an old town road that was converted into a garden walkway by former resident Mr. Poirier of Third St. We'll be having our annual new gardener's meeting this year on April 22nd at 6:30 in the Rollinsford Public Library, which is in the Lower Mill off Front Street. We'll collect your payment (if we haven't already done so,) talk about garden rules, and have you sign some paperwork. We're looking forward to meeting all our new gardeners!
Returning gardeners who still need to pay for their beds this season also need to attend. Thank you all! Please click the "Annual Duck Race Tickets" button on the left side of our website to purchase tickets online or visit http://www.rollyduckrace.com!
What happened to Rollinsford on May 15? Almost 70 volunteers from Timberland Co. arrived that day to the 14-acre town site on Foundry Street that houses the community garden. After a long day of hard work, they left a welcoming space for residents to come and picnic, to garden in new beds, to walk, to reflect on the quiet beauty around them. IN ONE DAY!!! The Timberland project leaders spent weeks working thoughtfully, caringly and imaginatively with the RGLSC to bring our hopes and dreams to reality. We still marvel at the organization and planning that was required to keep 68 volunteers busy and productive for the day. Many residents responded to our invitation to join us after the day’s work to celebrate our accomplishments. It was gratifying to see friends and neighbors walking through the archway, families eating ice cream at the picnic tables, groups of people going down the trail and coming up the trail, and hearing gardeners marveling at the new beds and the archway. Many, many thanks to our community sponsors, our business sponsors and especially our wonderful Timberland volunteers! Enjoy the accompanying photographs of the days’ work and its aftermath. And don’t forget to visit the site itself! |
